For those wishing to visit a garden with organic cottage garden principles you'll find many interesting nooks and crannies to see and explore. Dot and Geoff have spent over thirty years working and developing the garden with many seats to sit, look and relax. The garden was first opened by Garden Organic (formally HDRA) in 2000. The perennial garden includes papaver poppies, peonies and blooming hellebores and has 12 varieties of apple trees, singles, doubles and trebles-all of different varieties. The archway into the garden is made up of four apple trees on one side and four pears on the other, for example Spartan apple is twined with Winter Nellis pear.

The allotment garden has five varieties of pear trees, all the hard and soft fruit and cordons are cut back for easy access for fruit picking and pruning. The allotment itself is made of a raised 12 bed system, three row’s and four beds in a row, and a rotational no dig garden which makes it easy to plant and manage. Herbs; currants; raspberries; gooseberries and cottage garden plants grow in between the beds to encourage bee pollination and utilise space.

Dot and Geoff now have the addition of two hens in the garden. Toffee and Treacle arrived in November 2017 at 10 weeks old. The droppings are used as an activator in the composting area and any bedding is incinerated to ash and either put in the compost bags or will be used for making ash glazes. Composting and leaf mould is made in potato and tomato sacks. The leaf mould and compost is left for 12 months and then used where needed in the garden.

Contained in Dot and Geoff’s garden is a converted washhouse made into a workshop/developing studio. The garden and the surrounding countryside, with its dramatic changes of the seasons helps to inspire the work.

A glorious garden, off the beaten track. The venue includes small steps, parking on road, toilets, refreshments, demonstrations and workshops, commissions welcome and there are plants and artwork for sale.

The garden is near the A5 Kilsby, M1 Crick, A361 Daventry, A45 Dunchurch.  We're located just down the road from Barby Nurseries, on the border Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire. Minimal local transport and a good uphill mile walk from the village bus stop.

Please note that insurance is not covered and unfortunatley, there is no disabled access. For further information, please contact Dot Crowe.
